We learn today in a book by the French journalist
Bruno Fay that, according to information from former French PM
Michel Rocard, it was in fact the president
François Mitterrand who ordered explicitly the destruction of the
Rainbow Warrior in Auckland in 1985.

This revelation is likely to darken our memory of a great statesman whose heritage has already been somewhat stained by two or three items drawn from his past.
