Religulous

Ever since his sketch on France, I've admired greatly the US stand-up comedian Bill Maher. It's reassuring that an American could be so frank and lucid.



I'm looking forward to his anti-religious movie, Religulous (like ridiculous), which will be coming out in the near future.

    Catherine: Thanks for your positive outlook on Antipodes. I have to be careful, as a naive Franco-Australian, when I start trying to imagine (with excellent examples, such as the Maher videos) how Americans might look upon France. Above all, it would be a mistake to think that France might be in a position to give lessons to her great trans-Atlantic friend.

    Many American veterans who fought in WWII in France feel very bitter towards France, since as they put it "we went over there and saved their a**" and then France talks down about Americans constantly. I explain that although I love France, myself, we must not take it personal: the French hate everyone, including each other! I was told this by a Frenchman, who was in a position to know. Explains a lot, doesn't it? Ah, human nature... too terrible for words, outside of those rare exceptions we call "heroes or saints."
